The 2007 winner Ms Camille Lewis an architect from Ottawa travelled to Trinidad in January to be a spokesperson for the Anti Youth-Violence And Single Moms (AYVSM) campaign being undertaken by the Trinidad Youth Council (TYC). The campaign is part of a collaboration between the TYC and the Beach Bunni Clothing company of New York City. This was a great opportunity for Camille and the Miss Queen of the Islands pageant to show our concerns for the issues facing today's youth. Camille also paid courtesy calls on the office of the Mayor of Port-of-Spain Alderman Murchison Brown and Minister of Tourism Mr. Joseph Ross. She also had the distinction of being taken on a tour of the House of Representatives in the famed Parliament Building popularly known as the Red House. On all of these visits Camille was accompanied by youth representatives from The Bahamas, Guyana, Barbados, St. Vincent & The Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago. These countries were all participating in a youth seminar organized by the Trinidad Youth Council to urgently address social issues currently affecting the region.
At the end of April 2008, Camille left on her prize trip to Trinidad & Tobago where a series of events were scheduled for her to attend . One of the highlight s of her trip was an invitation from the Trinidad Youth Council to attend the HIV/AIDS Awareness Media Launch/Caravan to promote awareness of this dreaded disease. The Miss Queen Of The Islands organization is proud to be involve d with this humanitarian project. I t's our intention to continue to support issues of this nature. The 2007 Miss Queen of the Islands pageant winner had the honour of meeting Prime Minister Patrick Manning at a Borough Day event in Point Fortin during this trip.
The Miss Queen of the Islands organizers extend special thanks to Tourcan Vacations for sponsoring Camille's Airfare to Trinidad and also to P.R./Media Specialist Mr . Rolph Warner for being instrumental in arranging these events for Camille in Trinidad.
